I make Noso at Another Mad World. If something isn’t working, email me at hello@anothermadworld.com. I usually answer within a couple of days. The fixes below cover the problems you’re most likely to run into.
Requirements
- A Mac running macOS 14 or later.
- Sonos speakers on the same network as your Mac.
- Permission for Noso to use the local network. macOS asks the first time Noso looks for speakers.
Noso can’t find my speakers
Noso looks for speakers on your local network, so most of the time the fix is on the network side.
- Make sure your Mac is on the same Wi-Fi or wired network as your speakers.
- Open System Settings › Privacy & Security › Local Network and check that Noso is switched on. If you said no when macOS asked, this is where you change it.
- A VPN or a guest Wi-Fi network usually blocks the messages Noso uses to find speakers. Turn the VPN off or join your main network.
- Quit Noso and open it again, so it starts a fresh search.
SiriusXM channels won’t play
Noso plays SiriusXM through the account you already set up in the Sonos app, and it needs one SiriusXM channel saved as a Sonos favorite to do that. Open the Sonos app, play any SiriusXM channel and add it to your favorites. Until then, Noso lists the channels but can’t play them. Noso never asks for your SiriusXM password.
Connecting Pandora
Open Noso’s settings and choose to connect Pandora. Noso opens a sign-in page on pandora.com in your browser, and you sign in there. The link code expires within a few minutes, so finish signing in right away. If it times out, start again. You can disconnect Pandora in the same place at any time, and Noso forgets the connection and your saved station list.
Quick Play shortcut
Quick Play opens with ⌘⇧Space by default. If another app already uses that shortcut, pick a different one in Noso’s settings.
EQ says “not available” for a speaker
Surround speakers in a home theater setup and subs take their sound settings from the room’s main speaker, so they don’t accept EQ changes of their own. Pick the room’s main speaker and change the sound there.
Restoring your purchase
Your purchase belongs to your Apple Account. Sign in to the App Store on your Mac with the same Apple Account you bought Noso with, and the purchase comes back. If it doesn’t, email me and tell me what you see.
Uninstalling Noso
- Open the Noso panel from the menu bar, open its menu and choose Quit.
- Drag Noso from your Applications folder to the Trash.
- If you also want to remove its settings and saved data, delete the folder
~/Library/Containers/fm.noso.app.mas.
Still stuck?
Tell me your macOS version, which speakers you have and what you see, and I’ll take it from there. The privacy policy covers what Noso collects and sends.
